HD Wedding Videography Tips

August 24, 2007

Although it is less common and practical to have a high-definition wedding video, some brides elect to have this service. If you are considering HD wedding videography, here are three important suggestions.

  1. Beware of conventional HD cameras! Most videographers that offer HD wedding videography use a cheap form of HD called “HDV,” which is much lower quallity than professional HD (such as DVCPRO-HD or HDCAM). Although we prefer DVCPRO-HD, HDCAM is just as good.
  2. Decide which HD format you want. There are two major HD discs available today: BluRay, and HD-DVD. Unfortunately, these formats demand new and expensive players, which you must purchase to enjoy your wedding in HD, hence why HD is less practical to most brides. Make sure your TV is also compatible with HD. Finally, be sure that your videographer plans to deliver one of the two HD formats mentioned above, otherwise it is pointless to film your wedding in HD.
  3. Which one: 1080i/720p? There are two resolutions of HD to choose from. Be sure you know what your videographer is offering. 1080i is much larger than 720p, however 1080i is not necessarily better than 720p; the “i” in 1080i means it uses interlacing, which means it’s motion is less fluid and dynamic. 720p offers progressive scan, which reassembles the dramatic motion of film in a movie theater. A new format, which few videographers currently offer is 1080p. 1080p is without a doubt the best option. When we do HD videos, we will deliver in 1080p.

Why Choose a Professional Videographer?

August 23, 2007

Wedding videography is rapidly becoming more popular among brides world-wide. Videographers are now widely considered a top service for weddings. In fact, in a survey commissioned by WEVA International, the majority of brides consider videography as one of the Top Ten most important bridal services, and after their weddings, an even greater number of brides consider it even more valuable than a Top Ten service.

Today, when consumer video cameras are more affordable and easy to use, some brides elect to have family or relatives video tape their wedding for free. However, in the WEVA survey, nearly half of these brides wished that they would have hired a professional. Many expressed regrets for not using a professional, while 95% of brides who did use a professional recommended other brides at least consider the same.

There are many more reasons to choose a professional than just statistics. Professional videographers use high-level equipment which offers far more superior picture quality and visual clarity than any consumer camera available. Professionals are also highly experienced with operating this equipment, and the result of their work is incomparable to that of an amateur.

Asking friends or family members to video your wedding prevents them from experiencing your wedding as welcome guests. To do a truly remarkable video, it would be impossible for them to enjoy your wedding as friends or family members should. Although you may save some money by enlisting your friends or family, it ultimately alienates them from your wedding celebration. Let the professionals capture your special day that you and your family can cherish forever. Gashler Films is a Utah videography company speciallizing in weddings and special events.
